I am exhausted. I only got about four hours of sleep last night, because I stayed at a cheap motel on the road. Arrived in Biloxi today. I had planned to take a nap then head downstairs for some gaming but ... yeah, I went straight for the poker. The only limit games they were running were 4-8 and 10-20 Omaha/8 with a half kill (but only one table with one hell of a wait for it). Excuse me? Isn't there a tournament in town??? Have things really gotten so bad with the players that we can't offer anything but no limit?
Argh. I opted for the 4-8 and was finally seated after waiting nearly an hour. Alright, I'll admit that I also put my name down for 2-5 no limit thinking I'd take which ever came up first (and the wait for 2-5 extended more than an hour into my 4-8 game). Yes, I know I said I was taking myself off no limit for the time being ... but I lied.
So I registered for the Ladies' tournament and took my seat in 4-8. It was mostly uneventful and extremely unproductive. What can you say? Low limit hold'em is an exercise in futility. Check this play out: There were six limpers and I looked down in the big blind to see AK off. I raise. Under the gun three bets it. Everyone else calls. Flop comes K-10-7 two diamonds. I bet, under the gun raises. Everyone folds & I call. The turn comes the 2 of diamonds (I had the ace of diamonds). I bet and under the gun calls off his remaining chips. Anyone figured out what he had yet? If you guessed a pair of deuces in the hole, you're correct. Last diamond didn't come. Argh.
Anyway, I sat tonight next to a really sweet local named Lucy. She helped me figure out how to order food at the poker table and even gave me a quarter of her sandwich because I had never tried one like it before. Apparently it's big in New Orleans ... a muffaletta. It was good. Well, I hope she does well in the tournament tomorrow. I hope I do well in the tournament tomorrow. It's 2 a.m. so I better get some sleep.

This tournament was unique in that everyone was nice. Didn't even run into a table Nazi ... completely surprising. It was a completely "Yay!" day in that I actually made the money but sucked in that I didn't score big money. But this is the first tournament on the circuit that I've placed in, so I was really happy about that. I'm going to have to look on Pokerpages to see if my name actually appears there. And the LIPS site, too, because we had our pictures taken and I really, really hope they don't post that there. We'll see.
Afterwards, I played 2-5 no limit long enough to lose the money I won in the tournament. Realizing I was utterly exhausted, I switched to 4-8 limit. Go me for using good judgment. Did little more than break even in that game. But I'm so tired. And I have to get up early tomorrow to check out. I may stick to the 4-8 tomorrow if I'm not feeling better. I really wish they were running a 10-20 game here. I'm so disappointed. Perhaps I'll ask them to start a list for it tomorrow. J

Got up in time for checkout and vacated the hotel room. Once my bags were stored, I headed downstairs for some breakfast. I decided to try the sports bar and ordered ... can you guess? ... a shrimp po'boy. Yum. It was good. It was 11 a.m. so I skipped on the desert. Headed over to the poker room to find that the number of 2-5 games that were running had drastically declined. In fact, they had only one table ... it didn't look that good so I opted for 4-8 limit Hold'em again. Came out ahead, but not by much. Overall, it kind of sucked that I spent the whole weekend playing 4-8. That game is a slow grind.
Had a desert at the coffee shop and headed home. I'm tired. A busy weekend will do that to you.
