Description of room:
A nice, large room with tons of inconsistent rules. It should be a nice place to play, but Harrah's has really fucked it up. During tournament time, they can't handle the crowd--most of the staff isn't well trained. For example, I was sitting right next to the poker room, waiting for over two hours to get a seat, when my name is called followed immediately by the words "last call" (yes, that's right, the lady working the desk who's initials are S. B. only called me once). I go to the podium just as she calls the next person in line. When I tell her I've come for my seat, she gives it to the next person anyway (right in front of me) and tells me I have to go back on the list. Utter bullshit ... I was so pissed off. Especially since she wouldn't put me back at the top of the list--she tells me I have to ask the guy doing input myself (Michael) who puts me in the middle of the list (after, I imagine, some of his regulars or buddies). When I finally get a seat, the dealer makes me pay for time (even though I sat down long after the time collection) then someone else arrives and isn't required to pay time. Some of the dealers let you play all your chips all in while others won't count the whites. Some make you post while others don't. They just totally don't have it together.
Description of comps:
Tournament time: There is none because Harrah's is run by cheap fucking bastards. Oh, if you enroll in a tournament they'll give you a free buffet. Other than that, though, forget it. I'm surprised they continue to validate parking during the tournament. It just probably hasn't occurred to them yet that they could take that away, too.
Games offered:
Tournament time: 3-6 Hold'em, 4-8 Hold'em/Omaha Hi, and no limit at 1-2, 2-5, & 5-10 are always run. They also often have a pot-limit Omaha game running. Other games run as well, but not as reliably.
Poker Room Rate:
Harrah's do something nice for their customers? Surely, you jest.
Safety:
Mostly safe but you should be a little wary of your environment. New Orleans is an extraordinarily dangerous city.
