Reno, NV
(775) 789 2000 casino or (775) 789 2313 poker room; 2500 East Second Street 89595
Date of last visit: 18 March 2007
Overall rating: You Could Suck Worse.
Comps rating: You Could Suck Worse.
Description of room:
Only been there during the WPT tournament. Their room is too small to handle the action at that time (which, incidentally, was half as big as it was the year before and almost not worth making the trip for), so they put out folding tables in front of the poker room. Staff is pretty nice. Restrooms are very close.
Description of comps:
During tournament time, ask & they'll give you a $5 comp. Five bucks? WTF? Um ... is that supposed to help reduce my food bill? How could they suck worse? Well, I suppose they could refuse to give comps at all.
Games offered:
4-8 Hold'em with a half-kill, 4-8 Omaha Hi-Lo with a half-kill, 10-20 Hold'em, and 3-5 No Limit Hold'em were played all the time. Other games were run occasionally. Locals said the action wasn't worth it when the tournament isn't in town.
Poker Room Rate:
During the tournament, I paid $49 a night. Not too bad. I don't know what the policy is when the tournament's not in town.
Safety:
No problems. Just don't go wandering by foot too far off the property.
Additional Information and Links:
Lake Tahoe is very much worth the drive. In March, when the WPT is in town, there's been snow on the ground (at least the past two years that I've been there ... it even snowed the first year). It makes the scenery lovely. Here's a link to a few photos.
Plus the buffet (which, by the way, costs a little more than $5) has the most awesome desert ... tiny little cups of chocolate. Worth the trip to Reno all by themselves.
